A handful of Upper School students recently took part in The Great History Challenge, a nationwide academic competition for middle school students that features a buzzer-based, "Jeopardy"-style format. In order to qualify, students took an initial online test where 6 to 8 students from each grade scored high enough to be invited to the Regional Competition last Tuesday night after school. Of those who qualified, a select group of dedicated parents and students traveled to the Advanced Math and Science Academy in Marlborough, MA to compete! Many other local schools attended, and Derby shined. Many of our students qualified for the National Championship in Orlando over Memorial Day Weekend. First grade library classes recently completed a unit of reading and learning about Chinese New Year traditions and celebrations by making tangyuan, which are are sweet dumplings that are often eaten in connection with celebrations. Students enjoyed the process of combining the ingredients together and then getting to eat their sweet treats! (fb)
