National Heat Safety Awareness day is held each year on the final Friday of May to raise awareness about the dangers of heat-related illnesses. We at Scotland Health want to remind everyone about the importance of staying safe in the heat. We want you to enjoy the summertime and all its activities, but as part of our commitment to safety, we encourage you to be proactive when planning your outdoor adventures. Here are some essential tips to keep you and your loved ones safe while working and playing in the sun: Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty. Avoid drinks with caffeine or alcohol, as they can dehydrate you. Wear Appropriate Clothing: Light-colored, loose-fitting clothing helps keep your body cool. Don’t forget a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses for added protection! Take Breaks: If you’re working or exercising outdoors, take regular breaks in the shade or indoors to cool down. Know the Signs of Heat Illness: Be aware of symptoms like heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea, and headaches. If you or someone else experiences these, move to a cooler place and seek medical attention if necessary. Plan Activities Wisely: Try to schedule outdoor activities for the cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or late afternoon. Stay safe and have fun! ☀️ (fb)
