TIP dispatches volunteers to provide emotional first aid to survivors of tragedy.

Trauma Intervention Programs
Overview

Trauma Intervention Programs (TIP) is a national non-profit organization founded in 1985 in the United States. It specializes in providing emotional support and practical assistance to individuals and families affected by traumatic events. TIP has affiliates across the country, with operations in over 250 cities.

Mission

The mission of TIP is to provide emotional first aid to survivors of tragedy, aiming to ease their immediate suffering and facilitate their healing and long-term recovery. This is achieved through the work of specially trained volunteers who respond to crisis situations at the request of emergency responders such as police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and hospital personnel.

Services

TIP volunteers offer support to family members and friends following a wide range of traumatic incidents, including:

  • Natural or unexpected deaths
  • Violent crimes such as rape, assault, robbery, or burglary
  • Fires and motor vehicle accidents
  • Disoriented or lonely elderly persons
  • Survivors of suicide
Operations and Recognition

TIP volunteers are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, contributing significantly to community crisis response. The organization has received several prestigious awards for its service, including the Innovations Award in State and Local Government from Harvard University and the Ford Foundation, the Crime Victim Service Award from the U.S. Justice Department, and the Governor's Victim Service Award from the State of California.

Affiliates and Partnerships

TIP partners with local agencies and health organizations to ensure comprehensive support for those affected by traumatic events. For instance, it works with health services like REMSA Health to ensure that emotional needs are met alongside medical assistance during emergencies.

Impact and Community Contribution

Through its extensive volunteer network, TIP provides over 60,000 hours of volunteer time annually, enhancing the level of care for survivors while also relieving some of the stress on emergency responders, allowing them to focus on their duties more effectively. This commitment to supporting communities during times of crisis underscores TIP's role as an essential resource in the U.S. non-profit sector.
