Grow Your Own Teachers is an innovative partnership of community organizations, higher ed institutions, and school districts that supports parents, community members, and paraprofessionals to become highly qualified teachers! GYO'S MISSION IS TO SUPPORT RACIALLY DIVERSE AND COMMUNITY-CONNECTED INDIVIDUALS TO BECOME CERTIFIED TEACHERS IN HARD-TO-STAFF SCHOOLS AND POSITIONS IN ORDER TO IMPROVE THE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES AND OUTCOMES FOR THEIR STUDENTS.

WE SEE THE TEACHER IN YOU. GYOIL MULTIYEAR LEGISLATIVE REPORT With ongoing investment from the Illinois legislature GYOIL programs harness the contributions of higher education district and community partners to directly address Illinois chronic teacher shortage and lack of racial diversity in the educator workforce. GYOIL purposefully recruits candidates from highneed urban and rural areas with significant teacher vacancies fully supports them in preparation programs and returns them to their home communities as fully licensed teachers. We are pleased to share a report that reflects on our work and impact for the past four fiscal years 20202023.
