The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) is reporting a concerning increase in measles cases originating in Lea County, near Gaines County, Texas. Due to the highly contagious nature of measles, additional cases are expected. Confirmed cases have now been identified in the following New Mexico counties: Lea, Curry, Eddy, Doña Ana, Chaves, and Sandoval. While no cases have been reported in Taos County at this time, the risk of spread remains, especially among individuals who are unvaccinated.
