Snoqualmie Valley Preservation Alliance

The Snoqualmie Valley Preservation Alliance is a community-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the Snoqualmie Valley, a significant regional treasure in the Pacific Northwest. Established in 2010, the organization focuses on protecting and enhancing the lives, livelihoods, lands, and waters of this region, which comprises over 440,000 acres of forests, farms, and small cities within King County, Washington.

Mission

The mission of the Snoqualmie Valley Preservation Alliance is to work collaboratively to find balanced, long-term solutions to challenges such as land use planning, agricultural viability, watershed management, ecosystem health, and flood risk mitigation. The organization recognizes the importance of preserving the environmental and economic viability of the Snoqualmie Valley, especially as urban centers expand rapidly.

Activities

SVPA is actively involved in:

  • Strategic Watershed Planning: The organization participates in watershed planning discussions to represent the farming and rural community's interests.
  • Land Use and Floodplain Management: SVPA seeks sustainable solutions for land use and floodplain management, working closely with King County and other agencies to prevent the loss of irreplaceable farmland.
  • Advocacy: It advocates for farmers and landowners at the county, state, and federal levels.
  • Water Access and Drainage: SVPA leads initiatives to increase commercial farmers' access to water and drainage.
  • Community Engagement: The organization works with scientists and environmental firms to collect data, inform decision-making, and educate the public on issues affecting the region.
  • Public Resources: It offers a hotline for public inquiries about flooding in the Snoqualmie Valley.
Values and Recognition

SVPA commits to fostering a culture of inclusivity, diversity, equity, and justice, recognizing the historical impacts of systemic racism and socioeconomic disparities. The organization acknowledges that it operates on the ancestral homelands of the Coast Salish Peoples and seeks to honor their legacy through meaningful relationships and informed actions.

Financial Overview

As a nonprofit, SVPA's financial activities include fundraising and contributions. Notable revenue sources include contributions and net fundraising events. Expenses are largely allocated towards executive compensation, other salaries, and operational costs. The organization's financial transparency is maintained through annual Form 990 filings.
