Pilipino Senior Resource Center

The Pilipino Senior Resource Center (PSRC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in January 2006 in San Francisco, California. The organization aims to provide comprehensive, culturally appropriate services to seniors and their families, particularly focusing on the Filipino community and other marginalized groups in the region.

History and Development

Initially established as a small community outreach program for Filipinos aged 60 and older, the PSRC has since expanded its mission to include support for World War II veterans and their families. Over the years, PSRC has developed various programs that address the unique needs of its clients, including health, nutrition, and social services.

In 2007, PSRC collaborated with Asian Prenatal Advocates to offer Pilipino Hotline Services, further enhancing their outreach capabilities. The organization received funding in 2008 from the AVON/San Francisco General Hospital Foundation to launch the "Filipina Breast Cancer Support Services Program," which employs a holistic approach to support breast cancer patients and survivors.

Services Offered

The Pilipino Senior Resource Center serves over 800 clients annually, providing a range of services designed to empower seniors and their families. These services include:

  • Comprehensive support services for health and wellness
  • Social and recreational activities to foster community engagement
  • Information and referral services to connect clients with additional resources
  • Targeted programs for veterans and their families

Impact and Reach

PSRC's initiatives have made a significant impact in the San Francisco Bay Area, particularly among the Filipino and broader Asian communities. The organization's focus on culturally relevant services allows them to effectively address the specific challenges facing these populations, contributing to their well-being and quality of life.

Through its ongoing commitment to support and serve older adults, the Pilipino Senior Resource Center continues to adapt and expand its programs according to the evolving needs of the community it serves.
