Every summer, we’re amazed by kids in our community who set up lemonade and sweet treat stands that benefit our organization. This year, we’re making it official—introducing the Foster Joy Stand! It’s a fun way for kids to help kids—and we’re here to make it simple. We’ll send you a guide full of tips, printable signs, and ideas for young changemakers (plus a few helpful notes for grownups, too) who want to host a stand that benefits Worthdays. Even better? Each stand will get access to an easy-to-use fundraising platform so you can track how much you raise and see the impact grow in real time. Did you know that we often meet otherwise unmet needs for young people involved in our local foster care system? A few examples in just the past couple weeks - - we had the opportunity to help fill the pantry of a mom who has worked really hard to reunify with her kids but had some hardships because of a recent surgery that was needed (for a period of time after a parent has their children placed back in the home, the kids are still legally in foster care) - we provided a corsage and flowers for a young man and his date going to prom! (Thankfully his suit had already been covered but his social worker wanted him to feel special!) - helped with transportation allowing a grandfather to participate in visitation with a child in foster care who is placed at a treatment center (demonstrating success with visitation is a requirement for the child to ‘graduate’ from the treatment center) - provided some essential household items for a young woman who aged out of foster care (and is a trafficking survivor) Today, we received an importance request for siblings who are headed to the custody of relatives. We have already purchased bunk beds, mattresses and a dresser that are all already on the way to the new home. We want to take the burden from this relative even more and have added some essentials to a wishlist and are inviting our village to help meet these needs. These items have been carefully selected based on the specific needs of the children and will help in the very early days of the placement. These relatives will receive little to no financial support to care for these kids so this is the least we can do to support this family. If you feel led to help, please review these first: 1.
