📣 Foster is not Home. While our #OneLuckyPup program is suspended until our long timers are adopted, a decision we made to bring awareness to the plight of long term dogs and the toll it takes on their foster homes, we are not only hyper promoting our dogs, but courtesy posting fantastic dogs from shelters/rescues currently in foster care who need visibility. We are calling this initiative FOSTER IS NOT HOME. Please share their stories! 🥰   MEET JOE! This guy might bet one of the coolest 😎 dogs we haven’t met yet! An easy-going island boy from the British Virgin Islands, Joe needs to line up a home before he can begin his journey to the USA!   JOE (2-3 years 50 lbs.) was found on the side of the road still attached to the chain he lived on, which was dragging freely and stuck in rebar. He was estimated to have been waiting in the hot sun for two days. JOE was starving, covered in wounds and suffering from deadly heartworm.   JOE was rescued by one of our partners, @positiveanimalwellness @terriehayward1313 Terrie Hayward, M.Ed., KPA-CTP, CDBC, CPDT-KA, CSAT a dog training expert, who has been fostering him since January. She has nursed him back to health, treated his heartworm and trained him. JOE is the total package, an INCREDIBLE, gentle and friendly dog. We are excited to help him find his home!   ✅ Vaxxed, neutered, microchipped. ✅ Knows cues for down, name recall and hand targeting. ✅ Working on crate training. ✅ Allows all handling and vetting. ✅ Loves car rides, dogs, humans, vanilla ice cream and food puzzles!   🐱 🐶 JOE’s deal home should not have a cat, but dogs are okay!   🏥 JOE’s has an excellent prognosis for a full recovery from heartworm with his last injections May 22-23. As we work to keep AZARI in his foster-to-adopt home, a sudden setback and loss of his eye has rocked this most resilient dog, while we have poured our heart and soul into since we rescued him from @nycacc in February 2023. Having suffered from chronic ear and eye infections, a recent eye ulceration became so severe he was at risk of suffering a ruptured eyeball. He underwent emergency surgery at @ethosvethealth this weekend to remove the eye (enucleation) as it could not be saved, and he was in pain. We are beyond grateful to Dr. Kat Daley and her team for jumping into immediate action and meeting AZARI on his level, agreeing with our ask for a #fearfree protocol to ensure the least traumatic experience for a dog who is extremely uncomfortable in a veterinary setting. She gave us agency to coordinate his least aversive plan of care to get him inside the facility and sedated, and arranged for us to pick him up while still sedated after the surgery. This was by far one of the most cooperative patient/client/doctor relationships we have forged for one of our special needs cases. We are sending all our love and appreciation to the entire care team at Capitol District Veteinary Referral Hospital in Latham, NY. Thank you for hearing us so that we could advocate for AZARI and be his voice. Agency is crucial, for dogs and humans alike. AZARI is recovering and doing well. We will keep you updated as he rises to yet another challenge.
