🌿 Join the Florida Springs Institute as the Weeki Wachee SpringsWatch Group Leader! 💧 We’re looking for a passionate volunteer to lead the Weeki Wachee SpringsWatch group! SpringsWatch is a citizen science program that provides hands-on training in water quality monitoring while connecting you with the wildlife and plants that rely on spring systems. It’s a fun and educational experience on the water, and your efforts help contribute valuable data to our knowledge base, shared with environmental agencies across the state. As a group leader, you’ll organize and attend monthly sampling trips at along the Weeki Wachee. A paddling vessel and a love for springs are essential—no prior water quality knowledge required! We’ll train you on sampling methods and equipment. This group paddles about 6.5 miles between Weeki Wachee Springs State Park and Rodger's Park sampling 10 stations along the way. Springs Academy is a free lecture series on Florida’s freshwater resources and springs. Each class is tailored to make learning quick and easy so you’re ready to hit the ground running as a springs expert. The classes will be held on the second Tuesday of every month, from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm. Participants who attend all 6 classes will receive a certificate of completion upon request. Discussion will go as deep as our time and audience allows. Haley Moody’s Biography: Haley’s passion for the springs began during her first visit to the Ichetucknee River. Her love of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) was born during her time at the University of Florida, where she graduated with honors in Landscape Architecture. After a GIS Internship at the Florida Springs Institute, she transitioned into managing FSI’s outreach efforts and now focuses on the direction of FSI. Her dedication to the springs continues to grow as she communicates the challenges that face the Floridan Aquifer. (fb)
