🌟 Member Highlight: Barbara (McIntyre) Friesenhahn 🌟 “I’ve had horses in my soul since I was born! After pestering my parents for the first few years, I finally got my own pinto pony when I was 6. After that I grew up riding a part Arabian mare that we had from the time she was a yearling until she passed at age 33. Over the years, we had some Paints, Quarter Horses, Mustangs, Thoroughbreds, Arabians and Appaloosas. We couldn’t find horses that met our standards and that were trained the way we wanted, so we decided to breed our own. We are constantly trying to learn more about training and realize we can always learn something from everyone… even if it’s what not to do! We did a lot of research before we settled on the Morgan Horse. We wanted something with a solid temperament and a kind disposition, but with enough fire and energy to go all day… a horse with relatively few health problems, good hard hooves, but we also wanted them to be pretty to look at…. horses that were sound, sane, sensible and stylish! We found the whole package with the Morgan Horse! In 1992 my mother, Elaine McIntyre, my sister Nancy Stuhl and I got our first Morgan and we subsequently became known as Tindo Morgans. The name came from the way my young daughter, Trish, could say the name of our first stallion, Clarendon of Quietude… it came out “Tindo!” Clarendon was by Criterion and was over 7/8 ths Lippitt blood. His dam was the wonderful Lippitt mare, Royalton Peggy Moro. We had the pleasure of meeting her in person and getting to ride her during one of our visits to the Quietude Stud. After delving into pedigrees over the years and researching bloodlines, we realized we really admire the old style, classic Morgan... the Lippitt Morgan. We did have the Lippitt mare Morannon Manzanita and at one time leased her full sister, Morannon Memory Moro. When the recession of 2008 hit, we took a hiatus from breeding, but still enjoyed the horses we had. I rode a palomino Morgan, On the Rocks, in a silver saddle with the grand entry of the San Antonio Rodeo for many years. In 2019 my mother and I got the itch to breed Morgans again. While we still admire many other Morgan families, this time we wanted to concentrate on the Lippitt Morgan. It’s been an adventure and we’re learning a lot. My mother bought her first Lippitt filly, Oakenheart Royal Occasion, at 5 months of age from Laura Ross of Oakenheart Lippitt Morgans in Kentucky. “Friday” just had her first foal, a friendly, showy colt, Tindo Royal Viscount, for us at the end of March. We’ve been blessed to add two fine Lippitts from Don and Mary Curtis’ highly esteemed Okan Morgans breeding program in Washington state: Our handsome, gentlemanly stallion, Okan Count on Me and the combined driving and equine trail challenge champion mare, Okan StormChaser. Chase has produced the fancy colt, Tindo Equinox, for us and is again in foal to Count. I’m currently having fun riding Count in the Tevis Cup Virtual Trail Challenge as part of the Lippitt Gents team. We also had the privilege of getting the top notch mare, Covenant Anna Moro, from the other well-respected and long-time breeders on the east coast, Dave and Barby Carr of Covenant Morgans. Anna has produced a smart, substantial and pretty filly we are super proud to have, Tindo Countess BelleAnn. Anna is again in foal to Count for a 2026 foal. We feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to get some of the highest quality Lippitt Morgans from some long-standing, very well- respected breeding programs. So others can enjoy them also, we hope we can, in a small way, help perpetuate the Lippitt Morgan into the future.” Barbara on Okan Count on Me 📸: J. Elizondo Photography (fb)

🇺🇸 Memorial Day 2025 🇺🇸 Today, we honor the memory of those who gave their lives in service to our nation. At the Lippitt Club, we also pause to remember the role our beloved Morgan horses played in America’s early history—carrying soldiers, pulling artillery, and standing steadfast beside those who served. One such horse was Clifton 457, a Civil War hero who gave his life in action in 1846. Sired by Hale’s Green Mountain and out of a mare by Gifford Morgan, Clifton reminds us of the courage and sacrifice shared by both horse and rider. Among them, the Lippitt Morgan stands as a living tribute to strength, courage, and loyalty—qualities that echo the spirit of our fallen heroes. As we reflect this Memorial Day, may we ride with purpose, preserve with pride, and always remember the cost of freedom. (fb)
