#CottonwoodAdventurePlay: Last week, the mix of sunshine and loose parts was like magical pixie dust, sparking extra creativity and joy! #PublicCharterSchool #TuitionFree #TheCottonwoodSchool (fb)

As part of the Indigenous canoe peoples and Polynesian voyage study, our 4th/5th grade students took a fieldwork in Astoria. They visited the Lewis and Clark National Historical Park and the Maritime Museum where they deepened their knowledge. (Their new long term exhibit was amazing and so informative: “Cedar and Sea: The Maritime Culture of the Indigenous People of the Pacific Northwest Coast”) Students will develop their own exploration journals throughout the entire spring unit! The Cottonwood School of Civics and Science A PlaceBased Public Charter School in Portland Oregon OUR MISSION To provide a creative learning environment where students develop a sense of place and become stewards of the natural world and active citizens within our community. LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT We recognize and offer thanks to the many Indigenous tribes and bands who have lived on and cared for the land we now know as Portland. These include the Multnomah Wasco Cowlitz Kathlemet Clackamas Bands of Chinook Tualatin Kalapuya Molalla and many other tribes who have made their homes along the Columbia and Willamette rivers since Time Immemorial. We acknowledge that this land was stolen from Native Peoples through United States federal policies such as the Land Donation Act and numerous broken treaties.
