Global Language Network

The Global Language Network (GLN) is a Washington, D.C.-based 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. It was founded by Andrew Brown in 2005 with the mission to use language as a tool to help address global, domestic, and local issues by improving communication and fostering understanding between cultures.

Mission

GLN aims to enhance global communication by providing affordable language classes in more than 60 languages. The organization believes that language is fundamental to resolving conflicts and promoting peace. It seeks to bridge cultural divides by delivering interactive language learning experiences that are both enjoyable and effective.

Operational Structure

GLN achieves its mission by recruiting and training native speakers to teach their languages and share their cultural backgrounds. These volunteer teachers form the core of GLN's educational programs. The organization also fosters a community of learners and educators, facilitating cross-cultural exchanges and personal development.

Programs and Services

GLN's programs focus on language learning through cultural immersion, emphasizing the importance of understanding cultural contexts to truly master a language. This approach allows students to engage directly with cultures while acquiring linguistic skills. GLN's classes are designed to be accessible and affordable, making language learning available to a broad audience.

Leadership and Governance

GLN is led by Andrew Brown, who serves as the Executive Director and President of the organization. The Board of Directors includes several members who contribute their expertise to guide the organization's strategic planning, financial management, and public relations efforts.

Financial Overview

As a nonprofit, GLN relies heavily on revenue from program services, which account for the majority of its income. The organization also receives a small portion of its revenue from contributions and investments.

Values and Impact

GLN values cultural diversity, dynamism, synergy, and fun. It aims to create a platform where people from diverse backgrounds can come together to learn from and appreciate each other's cultures. By promoting language learning and cultural exchange, GLN envisions a more peaceful and cooperative global community where individuals can respect and learn from differences.
