PathForward Inc., operating under the Employer Identification Number (EIN) 541615993, is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization formerly known as the Arlington Street People’s Assistance Network (A-SPAN). Founded in 1992 by Lora Rinker and Pam Juhl, it was initially incorporated as a response to serve bagged meals to homeless individuals in Arlington, Virginia.

History

A-SPAN began as a small endeavor but evolved into a comprehensive service provider. Over the years, it expanded beyond emergency services by implementing programs like Permanent Supportive Housing (2007) and Rapid Rehousing (2009). In 2010, nursing services were incorporated to enhance holistic care. The organization also established a Homeless Services Center and Medical Respite Program in 2015, offering a one-stop location for essential services to support individuals on their path to stability. In 2021, A-SPAN changed its name to PathForward, reflecting its ongoing commitment to empowering individuals to move beyond homelessness.
