Floridas Forgotten Felines Inc
We Provide Food and Medical to 600+ Feral cats Daily!! Everyday our mission is to fix as many Feral cats as possible and return them to their area where they were trapped. We go out every night and feed the cats for life!! Our goals are to fix as many cats as possible,as females can have up to 10 kittens at a time and males roam and endanger themselves crossing highways and roads in search of other females. Once these cats are spayed/neutered they calm down and just live out their lives in the area they were found in. We have trapped hundreds of cats and have found out through our yrs of service that T.N.V.R WORKS!!! Trap,Neutered,Vaccinate and Release.
Florida's Forgotten Felines, Inc.
Florida's Forgotten Felines, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of feral and stray cats in Palm Beach County, Florida. Founded in 2002 by Susan Carmichael, the organization has been actively involved in managing and caring for feral cat colonies for over 25 years.
Mission
The mission of Florida's Forgotten Felines, Inc. is to humanely manage the population of feral cats through the Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) method, also commonly referred to as Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). This approach ensures that feral cats are sterilized, vaccinated, and returned to their colonies, reducing unwanted breeding and mitigating behaviors like fighting and howling associated with mating. Additionally, the organization provides regular food and medical care to these cats, ensuring they lead healthier lives in their natural habitats.
Activities
- Feral Cat Care: The organization feeds and cares for over 850 cats across more than 70 colonies in southern Palm Beach County. Daily operations include feeding, monitoring colonies, and providing medical care for sick or injured cats.
- Adoption Services: While the organization does not operate as an animal shelter, it rescues stray cats that are not feral and fosters them until they can be adopted into loving homes. Feral kittens, if socialized early enough, can also be adopted.
- Volunteer Engagement: Florida's Forgotten Felines, Inc. heavily relies on volunteers for tasks such as feeding, trapping, transporting, and fostering cats. The organization appreciates donations in the form of food, supplies, and monetary support to sustain its operations.
Impact
Since its inception, Florida's Forgotten Felines, Inc. has significantly contributed to the reduction of the feral cat population in Palm Beach County, Florida. Through its TNVR efforts, the organization has seen a substantial decrease in feral cat numbers and associated health issues. This approach not only benefits the cats but also enhances the quality of life for nearby communities by reducing nuisance behaviors from unspayed cats.
Financials
The organization spends significant resources on food and medical supplies each month, aiming to ensure the well-being of the feral cats under its care. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, donations to Florida's Forgotten Felines, Inc. are fully tax-deductible, supporting the continuation of its mission to provide humane care to feral and stray cats.
