Each year, the Ride of Silence moves through our streets not in celebration, but in memory. In silence, we remember the Angelenos taken by traffic violence lives cut short by a system that too often prioritizes speed over safety, cars over people. This international ride honors bicyclists who’ve been killed or injured by motor vehicles. But it is also a quiet demand: that our streets reflect our values. California's budget is being finalized. Active transportation is on the chopping block again. Last year, cuts to the Active Transportation Program (ATP) left dozens of walking, biking, and rolling projects unfunded. With restored funding, 30 shovel-ready projects could break ground immediately. Instead, billions are still flowing to polluting highways. The Legislature promised to fix this. It’s time to hold them to it.
