If there’s one things that we’ve leaned from doing research for our “Searching for Vermont’s Lost Ski Areas" exhibit is that skiing in Vermont was not an elitist activity. We’ve recorded over 200 lost ski areas in Vermont that operated from the 1930’s til now. Most of them were community run operations that ran on a shoestring. Simple rope tows, T-bars or Poma lifts operated in villages and towns or on farmer’s pastures. They offered night skiing, lessons, races, jumps and snack shacks and were often free. The tows got kids and families outside during the long winter months. Pictured here is North Country Ski Park in North Hyde Park which maintained various slopes and operated a platter lift as a labor of love between 1961-1966. We’re open TH-Sun. 12-5:00. $5 donation appreciated. . #lostskiarea #vermontlostskiarea #vintageskiing #skivermont #snowboardvermont #skiing #snowboarding #winterinvermont #skivt100 #woodenskis (fb)
