ROOSEVELT PARK MINISTRIES INC
Providing Christ-centered, holistic support to individuals, families, and youth in Roosevelt Park.
Roosevelt Park Ministries Inc
Roosevelt Park Ministries Inc is a nonprofit organization established in 1996 in response to community needs in the Roosevelt Park neighborhood. It was founded through an initiative by deacons from the Roosevelt Park Community Christian Reformed Church, in partnership with the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee (CRWRC), and is based on the Christian Community Development model developed by Dr. John Perkins[1].
Mission and Vision
The mission of Roosevelt Park Ministries Inc is to provide Christ-centered, holistic support to individuals, families, and youth living in and around the Roosevelt Park community. Their vision includes bridging gaps in the community by promoting strong families, developing community leaders, fostering an inclusive environment, and providing opportunities to build a strong economic base[2].
Programs and Services
Roosevelt Park Ministries offers a variety of programs aimed at addressing specific community needs identified through a neighborhood survey conducted in 1996. Initial areas of focus included English as a Second Language (ESL), literacy, teen/youth programs, and family enrichment services[1]. Over time, the organization has expanded its offerings to include:
- ESL and Literacy Programs: In partnership with Godfrey-Lee Community Education, RPM provides ESL tutors and literacy classes[1].
- Counseling Services: Professional counseling is provided in partnership with Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services[1].
- Parenting Classes: Offered in collaboration with Lutheran Child and Family Services[1].
- Spanish Classes for English Speakers: To promote cultural exchange and understanding[1].
- Career Camp for Middle School Students: Developing career aspirations among youth[1].
- Financial Literacy: Free tax preparation assistance and other financial education programs are available[3].
- Health and Wellness: Cooking and exercise classes are offered in partnership with the YMCA[1].
Leadership
As of recent updates, Joel Groat serves as the Executive Director of Roosevelt Park Ministries Inc. His background includes roles as a bilingual community organizer and extensive experience in religious and leadership positions[4]. Jacky Osegueda holds the position of Director of Operations, bringing international nonprofit experience to the role[4].
History
Roosevelt Park Ministries Inc was officially incorporated in March 1996 and operates as a separate nonprofit entity responsible for its own program development and funding[1]. In 2009, the organization purchased its building, expanding capabilities for ministry and community outreach[1]. A capital campaign in 2010 enabled the organization to pay off its mortgage and further develop its programs and facilities[1].
