My name is Angelique. Growing up, my mom was a single mother of 7. I was a middle child and 9 years old when my dad passed away. It wasn’t long after that, at the age of 13, I tried my first substance, meth. At the time, I would get lost in substances, and it felt like I could cope with all the ugliness going on around me. I had a lot of trauma going on, and I could forget all about that when I was high. Later on in life, though, I ended up in jail because of my drug use. I became numb when I lost my kids for a little while because of my using. It was the lowest point of my life. I had heard about Teen Challenge because a niece of mine graduated from the program. I decided to try it and was excited because I was no longer in jail. Since being here, I’ve remained sober and committed to my sobriety and have made more of a commitment to follow Christ. My mom is my #1 supporter. All five of my sisters, one brother, and three brothers-in-law also support me. And both of my children are proud of me! My son will soon have communication with me as well! One of my favorite things about the program is the curriculum & studies with the Bible. My relationship with God has grown so much. My plans for the future are to go home to my kids and live a life of real meaning and purpose. I want to continue to follow my Lord and Savior in all areas of my life. One verse I really love is Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (fb)
