Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission

Overview

The Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC) is a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting patient safety and improving the quality of care in nephrology nursing. Formed in 1987, the NNCC was originally known as the Nephrology Nursing Certification Board (NNCB).

Mission and Philosophy

The NNCC's mission is to establish credentialing mechanisms that enhance patient safety and improve care for nephrology patients. It adheres to the philosophy that a diversity of certification examinations provides opportunities for professionals across various levels of education, experience, and practice areas within nephrology nursing.

Structure and Operations

The NNCC operates independently and collaborates with other organizations to develop, administer, and evaluate nephrology nursing certification examinations. It is not affiliated with any provider of dialysis care or training programs for nephrology professionals.

Governance and Staff

The commission is composed of nine commissioners, including eight with expertise in nephrology nursing and one public member. The staff includes an Executive Director and other specialists focused on certification services.

Certification and Education

The NNCC offers several examinations to validate clinical performance in nephrology nursing, supporting personal and professional growth through education, administration, research, and clinical practice.

Partnerships

The NNCC works with professional nephrology organizations to promote certification and recognize certified individuals. Its collaboration extends to education and advocacy, fostering excellence in nephrology nursing practice.
