Last weekend, Museum of the African Diaspora hosted the 6th annual Diaspora Dinner—a sold-out evening honoring Black culinary traditions, community, and creativity. This year’s celebration was curated by MoAD Chef-in-Residence Jocelyn Jackson, who invited the trailblazing Toni Tipton-Martin to join her in honoring the rich legacy of African American foodways. Drawing inspiration from Tipton-Martin’s latest book, Juke Joints, Jazz Clubs & Juice: Cocktails From Two Centuries of African American Cookbooks, the multi-course dinner paid tribute to the stories, rituals, and resilience woven through generations of Black cuisine and cocktail culture. Set against the soulful backdrop of Grammy® Award-winning pianist Tammy L. Hall and saxophonist Ashley Jemison, the evening featured an intimate conversation reflecting on Tipton-Martin’s groundbreaking career and enduring impact on food, history, and storytelling. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped bring this powerful night to life. Your presence helped turn a signature event into something even more meaningful—a vibrant celebration of community, creativity, and the enduring brilliance of the African Diaspora. Deep gratitude to our staff, chefs, artists, and organizers—and to The St. Regis San Francisco for partnering with us to present this unforgettable evening. A special thanks to our sponsors: Kaiser Permanente, Crankstart, Encore, Creative Design, Omnivore Books on Food, Felix Lighting, Saint Flora, and Studio Eye.
