We’re thrilled to share some big news! Deschutes County Search & Rescue has been selected as a 2025 Rocky Talkie Search and Rescue Award recipient, receiving a $25,000 grant. This award supports underfunded volunteer SAR teams across the U.S. and Canada, and we’re proud to be among this year’s recipients! Funded through Rocky Talkie’s Outdoor Safety Pledge—which reinvests $2 from every radio sold into outdoor safety—this program has awarded $266,000 to 27 SAR teams for 2025 alone. Thanks to this grant, we’ll be able to train additional volunteers in advanced avalanche rescue techniques, a vital need given the challenges of our recent winters. Congratulations to the other 2025 Rocky Talkie SAR Award Recipients: $25,000 Award Recipients: • Linville-Central Rescue Squad (NC): Purchasing critical PPE and technical gear to support their newly accredited Mountain SAR team. • Pennington County Search and Rescue (SD): Upgrading PPE and backcountry communications tools—including Rocky Talkie radios—to improve operational safety. $10,000 Award Recipients: • Tahoe Search and Rescue (CA): Supporting avalanche education and training with newly certified in-house instructors. • Golden and District Search and Rescue (BC/AB): Launching a drone program to enhance response during swiftwater and avalanche rescues. $5,000 Award Recipients: • Boone County Water Rescue Team (KY): Replacing compromised underwater communication systems for safer dive missions. • Columbia Valley Search and Rescue (CVSAR) (BC): Advancing a repeater project to expand emergency radio coverage in remote alpine zones. • Chaffee County Search and Rescue North (CO): Installing a modern communications console to streamline field coordination during multi-day operations.
