In collaboration with the German Corporation/ GIZ-ReGo, CSI embarked on a project in affected mining communities surrounding the Huiren Mining Company in Jorquelleh District, Bong County. The project seeks to educate citizens about Liberia Mining Laws, Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Huiren Mining Company and affected communities. This will enable citizens to make informed decisions to demand for their rights. In addition, CSI will also conduct water quality test as a way of ascertaining the protection of surrounding water bodies. It's expected that this project will advocate for the rights of indigenous and promote peaceful coexistence among community dwellers, government representatives and the Huiren Mining Company. CSI's Team visit to the affected communities gives community dwellers the hope of benefiting from mining activities in their clan. These communities include, Gbarmou, Kpai, Banamah and Jackson Village. Civics and Service International Country Director, Otis Bundor led the Team and gave an overview of the project to cross-section of stakeholders. (fb)
