The Foundation for Sustainable Urban Communities Home About Us Resources Initiatives News More The Foundation for Sustainable Urban Communities was founded in 1990 by renowned Denver philanthropist Sam Gary. Although the name Stapleton was retired in 2018 the foundation has remained dedicated to its mission of leading the redevelopment of Denvers former airport which closed in 1995. Today the 4700acre site is recognized as one of the nation39s largest and most acclaimed urban infill developments. Working closely with various stakeholders our goal is to foster a community that sets new standards for sustainability in education employment green spaces housing diversity and environmental stewardship while integrating seamlessly with surrounding neighborhoods.
