History and Mission
Founded in 1978 by Quaker organizations within the Friends Center complex, FCCC is rooted in Quaker values such as peace, equality, and acceptance. The center aims to provide an enriching environment of love, security, and community for children between the ages of 3 months and Kindergarten. Its mission is guided by the Quaker belief that there is that of God in every person, fostering respect for others, self-confidence, and social skills through age-appropriate experiences[1][3].
Program Philosophy
FCCC operates on a philosophy of active learning, where children engage in developmentally appropriate activities that enhance social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. The program emphasizes child-centered care and learning, ensuring that every child feels loved, capable, and special. It promotes non-violence, peaceful conflict resolution, and respect for diversity[1][3].
Financial Structure
As a nonprofit, FCCC derives the majority of its revenue from program services, with a significant portion going toward salaries and wages. Donations contribute a smaller percentage to the overall revenue. The organization maintains a solid financial position with a notable total of assets[2].
Community Impact
FCCC serves a culturally and economically diverse urban community, fostering a sense of community among children, parents, and educators. It encourages children to grow into caring, curious, and responsible human beings and strives to reflect the diversity of its surroundings[1][3].
Programs and Services
The center offers programs for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, each designed to meet the unique developmental needs of its participants. These include enrichment activities such as music, art, and outdoor play, aimed at promoting cognitive, social, and emotional growth[3][5].
