Sweeps have become a regular occurrence in our city. Those who find themselves living on the street continue to be harmed and traumatized by poor policy decisions. At Loaves & Fishes, we agree that sleeping outside is not ok, but we also believe that if you are going to sweep people, they should be told where they can go. We believe housing is a human right, and emergency shelter is necessary. The current practice from the agencies sweeping encampments involves throwing away personal belongings, often this means tents and blankets. We are rooted in radical hospitality. We serve unhoused people by offering survival services, including tents, blankets and tarps. As the weather gets warmer, would you consider dropping off survival items?
