The Book As Art v.13: Mixed Messages is the 13th edition of an art show celebrating books: objects that, in an increasingly digital world, stubbornly survive. "Mixed Messages" draws on the layered complexities of language, saying one thing but meaning another. In a world inundated with myriad ways to communicate and connect, messages are muddled, signals crossed, meanings distorted. Ambiguity is the native tongue of nuance. The book, as both object and idea, holds space for these contradictions. The Book As Art series seeks to showcase beautifully made volumes, sculptural and conceptual interpretations, and one-of-a-kind approaches to the book format. Announcing the first annual "HOME" exhibition, presented by the Decatur Arts Alliance and the Decatur Land Trust in partnership with the Decatur Branch of the Dekalb Library System and the Georgia Center for the Book. 🏠 HOME v.1: Gimmie Shelter invites professional and student artists working in all mediums to submit up to 3 artworks for consideration by jury. The inaugural theme explores how to redefine and reimagine the place we call "home". What does “home” mean to you? Is it a shelter, or a sanctuary? Is it a place on a map, or an internalized feeling of community? Does it feel further away as times and landscapes change, or is it suspended in time the farther you travel?
