JOB DESCRIPTION... We're Hiring! Part-Time Contract Event Coordinator Location: Hybrid (a mix of remote + in-person in Shelby County/Birmingham Alabama area) Hours: 10–15 hours/week (with more as events get close) Pay: $20.00 ________________________________________ Hey, Event Rockstar — We’re Looking for You! Second Shift is on a mission to help youth aging out of foster care step confidently into adulthood — and we’re doing it in bold, creative, and unforgettable ways. Our signature events are not just fundraisers — they’re full-on movements. Right now, we’re looking for a part-time Event Coordinator to lead the charge on two of the most unique and meaningful events in the Birmingham metro area: Swag The Bag – a high-energy, fashion-meets-activism art show where trash bags get a fierce rebrand and youth shine on the runway. It’s not just fashion — it’s storytelling with style. Colors of Connection – a community-powered celebration of art, hope, and what’s possible when people come together to create something beautiful. Other fun meetings and community events – Because it can’t be a party 24/7! These events don’t run themselves, so that’s where you come in. ________________________________________ What You'll Be Rockin’: Swag The Bag • Be the lead planner for the entire event — yes, the whole glamorous, gritty, meaningful shebang • Run our online silent auction using 32Auctions (think: gathering cool items, posting them, and managing all the behind-the-scenes action) • Coordinate decor creation, build events, and on-site display installations • Organize volunteers and lead setup/tear down like a pro • Keep our timeline tight, our vendors in the loop, and our vision on point Colors of Connection + Community Events • Plan and execute creative community-based art events throughout the year • Handle all the fun logistics like locations, supplies, and schedules • Bring people together to create meaningful moments Other Meetings and Community Events as needed Volunteer Vibes • Recruit passionate and reliable volunteers to help bring each event to life • Keep the energy high and the details flowing Fundraising Fun • Pitch in with donor tasks, sponsor outreach, and other creative fundraising magic as needed ________________________________________ You’re Gonna Crush It If You Are: • A creative organizer who loves events, checklists, and good vibes • Comfortable with tech (bonus if you’ve used auction platforms before!) • A strong communicator who can rally people and keep things moving • Chill under pressure, flexible with changes, and solid on deadlines • Passionate about making a difference — especially for youth • Cool working some evenings or weekends when event time rolls around ________________________________________ Why This Work Matters: At Second Shift, we believe a trash bag should never be a suitcase. Every time a young person in foster care moves with their belongings in a trash bag, it sends the wrong message about their value. That’s why Swag The Bag flips the script — transforming trash bags into art and fashion statements that demand attention and spark change. Our events help reframe the narrative around youth in foster care — from overlooked to unstoppable. ________________________________________ Ready to Join the Crew? Send your resume and a quick note telling us why this role excites you to tammy.spence@secondshiftalabama.org. Let’s make some magic. ________________________________________ Learn more about us at www.secondshiftalabama.org (fb)
