RU Exhibition: “Grids and Islands” 🎉 Opening: Saturday May 17, 2025 | 11am – 5pm 📅 On view: May 17–18 & 24–25 | 11am – 5pm (Weekdays by appointment) 📍 RU House at Colonels Row, Building #404B, Governors Island Residency Unlimited is pleased to present “Grids and Islands,” our first group exhibition of the 2025 season at the RU House on Governors Island (@governorsisland) featuring works by RU artists: Kemil Bekteši (@kemil.bektesi), Nikica Jurković (@nikica_jurkovic), and Veronika Romhány (@nimova_projeckt). Curated by Data Chigholashvili (@datachme).  Grids are organizing systems that support efficient movement but also create confinements and restrictions within their unifying orders. From above, grids appear as perfectly shaped islands, but they shift as one’s gaze descends and gradually gets lost in them. When thinking of an urban grid system, the first example that often comes up is NYC, one of the busiest and diverse islands. “Grids and Islands” takes place on Governors Island – a smaller island in a city built on many islands – and explores organizing networks from different perspectives. Introducing the Curators in Residence joining us in May! Julia Feldens (@julia_________feldens ) is a performer, researcher, and cultural producer whose work explores the intersection of collectivity, artistic research, and experimental curatorial practice. In 2015, she developed Casa Líquida (@casaliquida) in São Paulo, Brazil, a long-term performance in which she opened her home as a space of exchange. Over the years, more than 3,000 artists and researchers have passed through this living archive, making it both a collaborative territory and subject of her research. Initially focused on the economic dimensions of hospitality in her Master’s studies (2018–2021), Julia now continues this inquiry in her PhD, where she investigates creative processes and collective practices.
