In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, AWF wants to recognize the late Yashoda Reddy and her daughter and board alum, Dr. Sujatha Reddy. Born in Hyderabad, India, Yashoda and her husband Ranga came to the United States in the late 1960s in search of the American Dream - a dream realized through their education, vibrant life, and great opportunities for their children. A lawyer by trade, she worked tirelessly over her entire career, having retired as a decorated government contracting officer for the US Department of Transportation under the Federal Aviation Administration. Throughout her career, Yashoda shattered every glass ceiling she faced, not letting the “traditional” way of doing things stop her. Inspired by her mother's determination, Dr. Sujatha Reddy has carried this spirit of breaking barriers into her education and career as a board-certified Obstetrician-Gynecologist, as well as into her passion as a medical correspondent, helping to promote medical news that informs without causing fear. In honor of her mother, Dr. Sujatha Reddy, her brother Rohith Reddy, and AWF established the Yashoda Reddy Education Award to help others thrive by providing scholarships to low-income student mothers pursuing higher education after graduation. #AAPIHeritageMonth #BreakingBarriers (fb)
