The American Legion Legacy Scholarship is awarding over $1.7 million to 559 military children for higher learning, a record amount for both in its 23-year history. The American Legion of Montana is staging a veteran outreach and post revitalization effort May 16-17 in Helena. The event is part of a broader statewide revitalization effort and runs alongside the Montana American Legion Women Veterans Symposium, also taking place in Helena this weekend. Veterans in the Helena area are invited to discuss and receive assistance with veterans’ benefits, and learn about the Legion’s legislative efforts, membership opportunities, programs and service to the community. The effort will take place from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. both days at American Legion Post 2, 3095 Villard Ave., Helena. A veteran service officer will be available on Friday, May 16, to assist area veterans with claims or other veteran benefit-related questions. (fb)
