The Northern Forest Center is hosting a ribbon cutting June 5 to celebrate the new apartments at 560 Railroad Street. The nine apartments in the redeveloped historic building have increased the number of long-term rentals available in St. Johnsbury. Speakers scheduled for the event include Vermont state treasurer Mike Piecheck, Northern Border Regional Commission Executive Director Sarah Waring, Town of St. Johnsbury Town Manager Chad Whitehead, The Vermont Community Foundation President Dan Smith, Center board member Tabitha Bowling, and Center President Rob Riley. The event begins at 11 am with light refreshments, followed by speakers until noon, and concludes at 12:30 pm. The first tenants moved into the building in mid-April, and all nine apartments are leased to year-round tenants. The Center redeveloped the historic, 15,000-square-foot property as part of its community revitalization work in St. Johnsbury. The project created nine apartments with a mix of studio-, 2-, and 3-bedroom units and two commercial spaces. Rentals are priced to serve middle-income earners in the St. Johnsbury area and are for long-term leasing, not for short-term rental. (fb)
