Is American slough grass (Beckmannia syzigachne) disappearing in California, or just not getting the notice it deserves? Fewer than 15 populations of this tall, short-lived grass of slow-water sites have been documented since 2000, down from 75 or more. Generally found in meadows, marshes, and slack channels of Northwest CA and across the Modoc Plateau and Northeast Sierra in CA, but more common outside the state. Help us by adding observations to Calflora or iNaturalist.org - May through August are prime times to survey! Feeling ambitious? Try to track down historic populations and get their status updated!
