We understood the assignment. In the spring of 2024, we ended up taking 19 kittens and one adult cat, from one household, into our foster program. Plus we spayed the 3 other cats that resided there (indoor/outdoor). But we did not complete the job because the owners would not help us trap/catch the remaining female by the name of Grandma (even though she is only about 4 years old). Grandma was the matriarch and she and her babies (through no fault of their own) were responsible for giving birth to all of the cats mentioned in this post. After working with the owners until we pulled all of our hair out and tried everything, we gave up and moved on to the next situation. Lo and behold they contacted us about 6 weeks ago to ask for help because Grandma had 3 kittens last fall who were now grown (Adult 1, 2, and 3) and having kittens of their own. Adult 1 had the 3 babies that we posted about recently who were entangled with their umbilical cord and the young mom was unable to care for them. We immediately took them but eventually all 3 died, they had been left alone too long before help was sought. We took Adult 1, 2, and 3 and spayed them. Adult 2 was very pregnant with 3 babies; Adult 3 was pregnant with 5. Thank goodness we spayed them in time. We returned them to their home afterwards. And then we were told Grandma had 3 babies under the bed. Nooooooo! 🙀😳😟😬🤐🤬😡😤 Expletives!! #countto100 #jailmaynotbesobad #iwalkthroughthevalleyofshadowofdeath #upcomingfundraisertomakebond Grandma is unsocialized and so we had to trap-train her in their bedroom until we trapped her, which took about 3 weeks. We transferred her and the 3 babies to a foster home. We were hoping Grandma would come around but she didn’t. So after she was done nursing the babies, we spayed her and allowed her time to recover and today returned her to the owner. Her babies are in our care and available for adoption. Thank you Emily and Family for helping Grandma and her babies! Stats: 2024- Removed 23: 17 adopted; 1 still available (Europe); 2 died; TNR 3 2025- Removed 10: 3 died; 3 available; TNR 4 Total Assisted: 33 from one home! This is a perfect example (as if we needed another one) of how quickly a situation gets out of control when a cat is not spayed. It is also very taxing on a cat’s body and psyche, from being raped by multiple male cats to having multiple litters several times per year. We have a team of dedicated staff and volunteers that go above and beyond and take the time to assist the community for the welfare of the animals. But this takes time, energy, and financial resources. We could not do this without the support from our donors and volunteers. Thank you! Today we honor Grandma and the countless mother cats that have no choice and are forced to live their lives producing and taking care of kittens. We find solace that the cats in this household (who unfortunately are not adoptable) are spayed, fed twice daily and can be inside whenever they want. Assignment completed! (fb)
