On May 28th, MAFS took a powerful stand in the statewide advocacy to protect the Older American Act (OAA), the backbone of many of its programs. With unwavering support from our funders, Age Guide, we rallied successfully in Naperville under the compelling theme “Don’t Blow Out The Candles on Older American Act.” MAFS clients, legislators, and city and county officials walked with us in full support, passionately uniting to champion senior services. A heartfelt thank you to Northshore Senior Center for hosting an inspiring advocacy session later in the day, featuring distinguished attendees Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky and Age Options CEO Diane Slezak. This session provided a vital platform for nonprofit leaders to share the profound impact and stories of OAA-funded programs of their organizations. MAFS Grants Director Roshita Pandey delivered a moving speech, highlighting how OAA-funded programs are a lifeline for immigrant elderly facing severe barriers, helping them create a home away from home.
