During National Student Employee Week last week, the John J. Byrne Community Center was recognized by Hofstra University as one of the participating opportunities for students to develop transferable skills, gain practical experience, establish meaningful professional networking relationships, and engage with the wider community. The community center was also recognized as one of the few off-campus work-study opportunities. An article on Hofstra's news site, written by Deborah Jerome, features an interview with Ryan Conway, a staff member at the community center. Conway handles digital communications and event promotions, maintains the nonprofit organization’s Facebook and LinkedIn pages, and explores ways to enhance its online presence. “I’m just excited about the job,” he shared. Set to graduate in December 2025, Conway has found a rhythm that works. “I feel like I’m good at time management. I look ahead to see what the assignments are, and I get a jump start on them.” Fellow employee Dina Jalilzadeh was also recognized on Hofstra's merit page as one of the 1,100 student workers at Hofstra that the university supports to advance student success, a key priority of the Hofstra 100 strategic plan.
