13-year-old Lungisani was on a water break from herding his family's cattle in rural Zimbabwe, when out of nowhere, a crocodile emerged from the shallows of the water hole, clamped down on Lungisani's leg, and began pulling him further into the river. Thinking quick, Lungisani grabbed hold of some riverside roots and fought the crocodile's pull with all he was worth. He managed to free his leg and drag himself out of the water. His family was alerted and rushed him to their local health clinic, but Lungisani's mangled and broken leg was more than could be managed in this rural outpost. Lungisani returned home, without adequate treatment, and in intense pain. Only later was he alerted to the presence of CURE Children's Hospital of Zimbabwe, which had both skilled orthopedic and plastic surgeons who had to work together to save Lungisani's leg. Thanks to the CURE Zimbabwe spiritual staff, Lungisani and his family came to faith in Jesus Christ, believing that God had protected and provided for them throughout this healing journey. Now fully healed, Lungisani says he is ready to return to school and is determined to ace his exams so he can focus on becoming a farmer or a teacher—something that wouldn’t be possible without the support of CURE’s generous donors.
