As part of Second Harvest Heartland’s Make Hunger History initiative, we are building partnerships to get more of the right food, right where it’s needed. To do this, we have invested in a new mobile food distribution trailer that will help reach the communities most impacted by hunger. The mobile trailer, along with providing access to communities lacking food shelves, helps expand services in areas that already have food shelves, but could benefit from more food distribution opportunities. With its climate-controlled storage and flexible setup, this mobile resource helps bridge transportation barriers and supports pop-up food distributions making access to healthy food easier. At Southwest Minnesota State University, students experiencing food insecurity have a place to turn. The university’s food pantry and Second Harvest Heartland partner, The Mustang Market, is a free on-campus resource started during the COVID pandemic and has continued to see need grow since. “Mustang Market definitely helps by just allowing people to have food... Whether it's toiletries or any cleaning supplies, we all know that stuff costs a lot.
