Happy Tuesday! On this fine "twos"day morning, we're spotlighting the adorable friendship that's blossomed between a pair of our resident conures: jenday conure "Bablu" and mitred conure "Sammy!" While Bablu lis loud, proud, and loves going with staff member Isabelle on various outreach events, Sammy is quite timid. He's slowly learning the ropes, and has made progress in accepting tasty pieces of produce from gentle, quiet visitors - but he still isn't too sure about spending any length of time near human fingers. A little while back, Operations Manager Diane introduced Sammy to Bablu in hopes that seeing another bird of his size (that trusts staff) complete various activities (such as stepping onto the scale on weight-check days) might help him gain some confidence. Although he's still nervous, this worked better than any of us could have hoped! Sammy wants to follow his buddy everywhere he goes! As long as Bablu is nearby, he's happy to go outside, step on the scale on weigh days, and allow staff to gently transport him from one location to another on a stick (fingers are still too scary for now).
