Attention Roy area climbers! This is a reminder to please stay on established roads when driving in the Kiowa and Rita Blanca National Grasslands (a.k.a. Roy bouldering area). The recreation managers at the Kiowa and Rita Blanca National Grasslands have recently noticed a marked increase in recreational users driving around muddy sections of the roads. Driving around muddy sections and/or leaving the established roads creates road widening and undue erosion issues. Climbers are urged to pay close attention to recent weather history and weather forecasts and avoid visiting the Roy area if it has been very wet. The roads in the area can take days or weeks to dry out. The Kiowa and Rita Blanca National Grasslands management has long worked with NMCRAG and climbers to ensure climbers have access to the bouldering areas. The management has recently put a great deal of effort into placing rock/gravel on the most difficult sections of the access roads. We urge all climbers to be on their best behaviors, stay on the established roadways and obey signage while recreating in the area. Thanks and have fun out there (when the roads are dry!) (fb)
