MDI veterinarians, Ange and Donovan, are now over a month into their internship at LCF (https://www.lemurreserve.org/) in Florida and they’ve been busy! Working alongside members of the LCF team they've been learning about the best practices for lemur husbandry and care as well as discussing with experts the best options for lemur housing and care using the resources available to MDI in Madagascar. Ange and Donovan have also been fortunate enough to participate in several other learning opportunities including a visit to the Naples Zoo @naples_zoo to learn more about exotic animal medicine and shadowing Operation Catnip @operationcatnipgville to gain insights into how large scale spay/neuter clinics operate here in the US (with an eye towards improving our practices in Madagascar). The Lemur Freedom Project has been launched! This new NGO based in Nosy Kissimassy was founded earlier this month in conjuction with MDI, @tdarfac, and @theslothinstitute. The Lemur Freedom Foundation (LDF) will operate as a sanctuary and rehabilitation facility for lemurs in need on the island. This is a huge endeavor taking it's first big steps towards incredible wildlife conservation.
