We are sorry to learn of the passing of prominent Texas architect Rodger Burson, who led the first phase of the adaptive reuse of the former Texas School Book Depository building in the late 1970s. As part of this historic preservation project, Burson—then with the Dallas firm of Burson, Hendricks & Walls—served as principal designer of the two-story Dallas County Commissioners Courtroom that served as the seat of local government for more than forty years. A significant voice in efforts to save the Depository building from demolition in the 1970s, Burson also worked closely with Dallas County Public Works Director Judson Shook and local preservation activist Lindalyn Adams on early development of the exhibit that later became The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza. We were honored to record multiple oral histories with Rodger, including this 2002 interview that includes a brief architectural walkthrough of the Depository building.
