Preserving our past for the future Travel Oregon Things to Do Smithsonian MagazineMay 2021 Atlas ObscuraFebruary 17 2022 Cultural Advocacy Coalition of OregonFebruary 15 2022 Governor Kotec visited the Maxville Heritage Interpretive Center in February of 2023 after a tour of the museum part of a community walk through Joseph to meet local businesses the Governor penned a proclamation declaring June 3rd be celebrated as Maxville Heritage Day by all Oregonians. Read the Proclamation here Senator Merkley presented a flag flown at the US capitol in Washington DC to The Maxville Heritage Interpretive Center along with his generous sentiment on our 100 year celebration during a Town Hall meeting 2023 Maxville Heritage Interpretive Center for exceptional work in preserving the Maxville townsite a multiracial logging community established in Wallowa County in the 1920s. The multiphased approach included acquisition of the land project of the last remaining building archaeological research and listing the site on the National Registerof Historic Places. Support our Land Management fund Help MHIC preserve and steward the 240 acres where the historical townsite of Maxville was located.
