At FIRST at Blue Ridge our approach focuses on healing accountability and personal growth to empower individuals to rebuild their lives. Guided by proven recovery principles we create a nurturing environment where sustainable lifelong recovery is not only possible but achievable. Our Mission FIRSTs mission is to provide opportunity guidance and education to those with Substance Use Disorders SUD and assist them in making positive life changes in order to become responsible and productive members of society.

Friends and Colleagues, North Carolina's First Lady, Anna Stein, visited FIRST at Blue Ridge in Black Mountain Friday 6/27/2025. Executive Director, Mark Merrick, led an excellent discussion about the improvements that FIRST at Blue Ridge has made to their recovery and reentry programs over the past several years β with the outstanding support of organizations like Dogwood Health Trust and numerous recovery friendly employers throughout the Asheville area. Anna Stein brought a remarkable sense of positivity, as well as practical ideas for continued improvement.
