From BSA's Gerald Mead on Janet "Wendy" Warner. In fond memory of award-winning WNY artist Janet "Wendy" Warner (1926-2025) who passed away last month in New Wilmington, PA where she had relocated from Colden, NY. She attended Buffalo Seminary (where her work is in the collection as a past Colby Visiting artist) and the Art Institute of Buffalo, and earned her Associate Degree in Sculpture from Sarah Lawrence College. Best known for her watercolor and oil painting, her works were exhibited at the Burchfield Penney Art Center (where she has five works in their collection); the Albright-Knox Art Gallery (now Buffalo AKG Art Museum); The Smithsonian Institution; The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts; The Butler Institute of American Art; and in more than 75 juried shows in the U.S. She was also a member of the Buffalo Society of Artists. An avid conservationist, her love of hiking and horseback riding took her to remote spots that provided the inspiration for her work. From my collection, an undated watercolor landscape, and a more modest watercolor she created in 1992 as a fundraising premium that year. (fb)
