With continued focus on our education programs, YachtAid Global team and visiting yacht crews recently converted social distancing sheds built during COVID pandemic into fully functional classrooms to accommodate the growing population of the local school in Antigua. Originally built as a primary school, the school’s enrolment has been steadily increasing since it converted to a secondary school, making this expansion a priority. In addition to the construction, the YachtAid Global team also installed AC units and fans in another school nearby while also repairing the hallways and closing off each classroom so that the newly installed units run more efficiently. The heat and humidity have increased substantially over the recent years in Antigua, disrupting classes, damaging books and electrical equipment. Our recovery & rebuilding work in the Grenadines continues months after the impact from Hurricane Beryl that devastated the islands destroying over 2,200 homes. As part of Operation C-Phoenix yacht crews joined YachtAid Global core team building 17 shelter homes on the islands of Carriacou and Petite Martinique where homelessness continues to be a major challenge after the storm. These shelter homes, built to last 5-10 years, will provide a safe space, shelter and dignity for the families as they rebuild their primary residences. While on these islands building these platforms and homes, YAG team yacht crew also visited several schools and children delivering school supplies, games, sporting goods and teaching supplies.
