YachtAid Global a registered 501c3 founded in 2006 operates at the highest levels of international nonprofit work providing disaster relief humanitarian aid and conservation programs across coastal communities worldwide. Our initiatives engage the yachting communitys generosity and unique assets already in place to save lives alleviate suffering improve the planet and build stronger coastal communities. We are committed to sound stewardship in the use of contributions.

Historically, only a few dozen Atlantic storms have reached Category 5 intensity since reliable records began in the 1920s. Although it initially weakened after being classified as a tropical storm, Hurricane Erin underwent explosive rapid intensification from a Category 1 to a Category 5 - one of the fastest such intensifications on record, particularly before Sept 1st. This quick escalation, alongside the trend of large-scale storms so early in the season similar to Hurricane Beryl last year in Grenada, is just more evidence that we are seeing a shift in global weather patterns.

YachtAid Global, participating yacht crews and marine scientists conducted field research on manta rays and epaulette sharks in the Raja Ampat Archipelago. These sharks, also known as “walking sharks” for their unique ability to walk across the shoreline and seafloor using their pectoral and pelvic fins, are endemic to the Raja Ampat area and only grow up to 30” long. Epaulette sharks, currently listed as nearly threatened on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List, are characterized by their unique spot patterns and are 1 of 9 species of morphologically similar sharks that are native to the waters around Northern Australia, New Guinea, and the Raja Ampat Archipelago.
