🌕 He Poūli, He Mahina: Witness a Total Lunar Eclipse in Hawaiʻi 🌑 Join us for an unforgettable evening under the stars as we gather to witness a rare Total Lunar Eclipse on March 13th! The Hawaiian word "Poūli" means "eclipse", and "Ka Mahina" refers to "the moon" — and this special night offers a chance to explore both through the lens of Hawaiian knowledge and modern science. 🔭 What to Expect: ✨ Discover what this celestial event meant to Native Hawaiians in both traditional and modern times. ✨ Observe the eclipse through telescopes with guidance from local astronomers. ✨ Hear captivating moʻolelo (stories) about the moon and learn to identify key constellations and planets lighting up the night sky. 🌅 Best Viewing Tips: The eclipse will be visible across all islands, especially in the south and southeastern skies. For the best view, find a spot near sea level away from bright city lights. 🕡 Event Timeline: 🔸 The eclipse begins around 6:30 PM 🔸 The moon will reach full coverage just before 9:00 PM Don’t miss this rare opportunity to connect with the sky, the stars, and the stories of our ancestors. Bring your ʻohana, bundle up, and join us for this magical night under the moonlight! We’ll see you there! 🌌 (fb)

Join us for “Wahi Pana O Keauhou - Understanding Our Home Module” on March 17, 2025 at 2:30PM - 3:30PM HST on Zoom. The area of Keauhou in Kona is the birthplace and training ground of royalty, the site of battles that changed the course of history, and a place where pivotal decisions were made to preserve our natural and cultural heritage for the future. Keauhou. Hōlua. Kauikeaouli. Hāpaialiʻi. What do these names have to do with Hawaiʻi Island? In this one hour session, we will take you on a huakaʻi (journey) around the cultural sites of Keauhou, Hawaiʻi Island where we will learn the cultural stories and history of some of the most beloved, visited, and sometimes misrepresented wahi pana (storied places). To register or learn more about our upcoming cultural training sessions go to www.nahha.com/calendar (fb)

Evolution of Tourism in Waikk Waikk today is the piko center of Hawaiis visitor industry. But long before visitors began arriving Waikk was a center for royalty a hub of food production a respite for our high chiefs a fishing village and a seaside kamaina neighborhood. This wahi pana is highlighted by the dedicated research of one man Dr. George Kanahele cofounder of NaHHA.
