We are excited to announce the hiring of Blake Nettleton as the Membership and Unit Growth Director for the Longhorn Council. Blake begins his new role today, June 1, 2025. This position is made possible through a generous four-year investment from the Lilly Foundation and is focused on strengthening and expanding traditional Cub Scout packs and Scouts BSA troops throughout our 23-county council in North and Central Texas. Blake brings a strong track record of success in Scouting leadership, along with a deep personal connection to the movement. A native of Bakersfield, California, Blake is an Eagle Scout and Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow. He began his professional Scouting career in 2019 with the Southern Sierra Council before joining the Western Los Angeles County Council, where he rose to the role of Field Director. Over the past four years, Blake has led efforts that resulted in a 12% increase in council membership—momentum he looks forward to continuing here in the Longhorn Council. In this new role, Blake will focus on aligning unit growth with the booming population across the DFW Metroplex, helping Longhorn Council reach its moonshot vision for membership growth. His leadership will work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community partners in building strong, sustainable Scouting programs that meet the needs of today’s families. Blake’s service extends beyond Scouting. As a Freemason and Shriner, he volunteers with Shriners Hospitals for Children. He enjoys traveling, hiking, camping, and fishing—interests that keep him connected to the outdoors and the values that Scouting represents.
