Freeway Park Association Freeway Park Jim Ellis Freeway Park is many things a place to gather together to experience art and community and an artpiece unto itself a place of respite and a bustling backyard for First Hill and Downtown residents. The park opened on July 4th 1976 bridging Seattles Downtown and First Hill neighborhoods after they were severed by the construction of I5. Designed by Lawrence Halprin and Angela Danadjieva it reconnects communities and is widely considered a masterwork of a modernist master and a precedent setting park that singlehandedly defined a new landuse typology for American cities. Upcoming News Events Freeway Park is a place of respite exploration and wonder.
