As we pause today to remember those who lost their lives defending this great nation, Lewisville Local 3606 also pauses to remember a man who gave everything, not only to keep the City of Lewisville safe, but to ensure that your Lewisville Fire Fighters were the highly trained, educated, and aggressive emergency responders you know today as your Lewisville Fire Fighters. Two years ago today, we lost our mentor and friend, Division Chief John “John Boy” Ashman. It is difficult to put into words what Chief Ashman meant to our department and the fire service. But we will try. He imparted his wisdom and experience to the members of Lewisville Fire Fighters and to everyone he encountered within the firefighting community. His passion for being a fire fighter was infectious. His extensive knowledge of the fire service went beyond any book or training session; it was a treasure trove of information born from dedication and hands-on experience. In addition to his remarkable professional wisdom, Chief Ashman was renowned for his sharp humor and spirited personality. He was always up for a good time and had an uncanny ability to lighten the mood, even in dire situations. Chief Ashman's reach extended far beyond our department throughout his illustrious career. He readily shared his knowledge through training and fire truck design assistance with other departments. His phone line was always open to anyone needing advice or just a friendly conversation.
